AN INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN CENTER FOR THE TREATMENT OF FIBROMYALGIA
The Fibromyalgia Clinic has gained an international reputation for the treatment of fibromyalgia and its associated symptoms. The Outpatient Clinic is located in Kentfield, California, Marin County, 35 minutes north of San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge.
BACKGROUND OF THE FIBROMYALGIA CLINIC
The clinic was founded in 1989 under the direction of our Medical Director, Paul Davidson, M.D., F.A.C.P. The treatment program is based on the RETRAIN program, first described in 1985 in Dr. Davidson's book Are You Sure It's Arthritis?: A Guide to Soft Tissue Rheumatism, and subsequently in 1990 and 1996 in his book Chronic Muscle Pain Syndrome.
RETRAIN is an acronym for:
R
- Rest and Relaxation
E - Education
T - Therapeutic muscle training
R - Respond to stress
A - Analgesics, amitriptyline and other medications as needed
I - Involvement - Personal control and self-efficacy
N - Never give up hope!
The program has been refined under the direction of Dr. Davidson and the able assistance of the staff of Kentfield Rehabilitation Hospital. The program is a multidisciplinary one, emphasizing individual therapy with a physical therapist, a biotherapist and a psychologist. The Clinic serves patients from all walks of life, both nationally and internationally.
THE TREATMENT PROGRAMS
The Fibromyalgia Clinic program:
The program is designed for patients who live or are staying within easy daily driving distance to the Clinic, and is a two day a week program approximately 8 weeks, involving sessions with the physical therapist, occupational therapist and psychologist.
